Introduction to Aerodynamics of aircraft, methods of computing key coefficients of forces and moments using low-fidelity methods (lifting line, vortex lattice and panel) followed by hi fidelity Computational Fluid Dynamics techniques will be demonstrated. Topics of Low Reynolds number flows of relevance to mini and micro aircraft along with experimental validation will be covered. Emphasis will be on hands-on work using Matlab as a programming environment.


On completion of the seminar delegates will be able to

  • Analyse the geometries (2D and 3D) and estimate key force and moment coefficients using thumb rules, data sheets
  • Compute relevant coefficients using low-fidelity methods (lifting line, Doublet, Vortex lattice)
  • Use modern CFD methods (Euler, Navier-Stokes) for analysis of realistic Wing and air intake geometries
  • Evaluate and decide on appropriate experimental techniques need to validate estimated results.
